Boppy Pillow saves the day...and night.

I have discovered Maggie's new favorite spot, her boppy pillow. Since Maggie has a little bit of reflux I've been too scared to lay her flat on her back when I'm not going to be looking right at her. So the other day I laid her in her boppy pillow because I didn't want her to spit up all in her bouncer. I sat down at my computer and when I looked up not only did Maggie not spit up, she was also sound asleep.

After Maggie eats, day or night, she is wide awake for a hour or sometimes a lot longer. Then she'll fall back asleep for hours. Well this is great during the day because it's not very often that I see her with her eyes open. But at night its very frustrating because all I want to do is go back to sleep after I feed her. Well boppy solved this problem too. I put it in her pack-n-play at night and after she's done eating I set her in it and she goes right back to sleep. Yay! I've definitely gotten more sleep these past couple of nights.

So now boppy is where we nap, sleep at night, and hang out while Mommy is getting ready. A round of applause is in order for whoever invented the boppy pillow.

1 Week!

So now Maggie is one week old! She had a little Jaundice but is now completely over it. When we went to the doctor Friday she had lost 7 oz. since she was born, but we went back today and she had gained 6 oz. over the weekend! Since everytime I burp her she likes to hold her head up, I decided she was ready for some tummy time. Well I guess she just wasn't feeling it because when I set her down all I got was this...

Here are a few pictures from our first week...

Labor and Delivery

Ok so I decided to write a post about my labor and delivery because I've realized the details are starting to slip away and I never want to forget it!

It started VERY quickly on Sunday. Eric and I decided to have a lazy day since it was raining, so we settled in on the couch and started watching a movie around 4:00 PM. Well about 5 minutes into it my water broke. I always thought I wouldn't know that my water had broken and would be hesitant to go to the hospital, but I was POSITIVE. It kind of freaked me out because I had pictured my labor starting with me counting contractions all day or night and then deciding to go to the hospital when they got close together and calmly getting our things together. Well all I can say is I am glad I packed our bags before hand because we were in the car and on the way to the hospital in about 5 minutes. It was so gross...it gushed and gushed and didn't stop. When we arrived at the hospital I told the nurse that my water broke but I hadn't been having any contractions, so she took us to a recovery room and gave me a gown to change into. Well while I was changing she came in and saw that there was no doubt that my water had broken and she took us to a delivery room. She checked me and I was dialated 4 cm. I started having contractions and they didn't take long to get really painful. It was awful! I told her I wanted my epidoral ASAP but she had to do blood work and send it to the lab before I could get it, so it would be about a hour. She gave me some Demerol to ease the pain and it made me LOOPY! I have never felt so weird. But then it either stopped working or my contractions just got too intense because I was in the worst pain I can imagine...and I was still super loopy. Weird combination. I have no clue what was taking Mr. Anesthesiologist so long, but when he finally came in with my Epidoral four hours later I was dialated 8 cm. After that I felt great, pain free and the Demerol effect had worn off. I quickly progressed but I told the nurse that I wanted to try to wait for my mom to get there before we started pushing. She had to drive from Georgia, but she made it on time! Right when she got there the nurse said to start pushing. I couldn't feel anything so I was a little confused on how I was going to pull this off. She said I was doing it right, so I just took her word for it. I pushed for about 15 minutes and then she called the doctor in. I pushed with him for about 5 minutes and Maggie was here! From the time my water broke to the time she was born was about 7 hours. I couldn't have asked for a better labor!

We got to come home Tuesday night. We've had a really relaxing couple of days. Maggie sleeps great and is eating good now. She just chills in her bouncer most the day!

Update...

So Maggie is still inside me :(  At my doctor appointment Thursday I was still 3 cm dialated,  and 60% to 70% effaced. I am CERTAIN my cervix as thinned out since then. Seriously my child is defying gravity! I have another appointment this Thursday, I am hoping...no..I'm PRAYING that she will make her appearance before then. Uncle Heath is in town for the weekend, so maybe she'll want to meet him before he leaves Monday night!

38 Weeks

At 38 weeks I am sleeping surprisingly well. My energy varies every day, sometimes I can't stop going and doing and sometimes I feel like I could sit on the couch all day. Waiting for Maggie to come is emotionally exhausting though! Even though I'm 3 cm dialated I still don't know what contractions feel like, so I over analize EVERYTHING that is going on in my stomach. I can't wait to see how much I've progressed, if at all, at my next appointment!

Goats and Cows

Yesterday we went over to Eric's mom's house for a Mother's Day dinner. They have a big pasture where they have a couple of cows and goats, so we all went down there to visit the animals. I had never been around cows and goats like this until I started going out there. I love it!

This is their baby goat. I wanted to take her home!

Eric's niece, Lauren, doesn't let a HUGE bull scare her. She's braver than me! I kept to the baby calf.

Mani/Pedi

#29. Get a pedicure

I was told that getting a pedicure some how onsets labor, so I looked it up and found that its because massaging the area between your ankle bone and heel can trigger contractions. I think this is VERY odd, but it's straight out of whattoexpect.com so I guess it's leggit! When I read this I was very tempted to start massaging away, but I'm just going to wait for Maggie to come when she's ready. Anyways, today I went and got a manicure and pedicure. It was very relaxing and just what I needed. Please excuse the nasty swollen feet in the picture and focus on the pretty nails :)

Baby Shower #2

Last Sunday my sister, Ashley, and Eric's sister, Jennifer, threw us a couples baby shower. Despite the threat of rain a lot of people came and it turned out to be great! I got tons of great stuff and I was very excited to meet some of Eric's extended family.

The guys that came were troopers...my dad even decided to see what this baby shower stuff was all about, but he quickly found where the guys were hanging out!

I was also VERY excited to see some of my friends from Georgia.

THANK YOU ASHLEY AND JENNIFER FOR A GREAT SHOWER!

Doctor Appointment

So today I went to the doctor for my 37 week appointment and was VERY surprised to find out that I am 3 cm dialated! I guess Maggie is as ready to get here as I am to meet her! It's a good thing I had a huge burst of energy this week and got everything ready for her. I checked a bunch off my list.

#8: Organize and put away all the gift from my showers
#9: Make a list of things I still need to buy after my showers
#10: Buy those things
#13: Pick out an outfit for Maggie to come home in
#27: Sterilize bottles
#28: Wash baby clothes and bedding
#30: Pack a bag for the hospital
#33. Get pjs to wear while in the hospital
#34: Pack Maggie's bag for the hospital

Check. Check. Check. I guess this is what people mean by nesting! I have been going non-stop in Maggie's room all week.

I'm not going to get my hopes up though...I'm sure it will still be a while before she gets here. But I just thought I would share!

37 Weeks

Today Maggie is officially full-term! The doctor said that she seems to be average size, but it's still so cramped in there.  Of course I'm ready to meet her, but I'm also looking foward to simple things like being able to completely fill my lungs with air and walk without waddling! It still seems surreal that she will be here by the end of the month. Other than the fact that I feel like she is about to fall out of me, I feel pretty good! Some days are better than others, but overall I think I've had a very easy and comfortable (as comfortable as you can be pregant) pregnancy.  Her bag is packed and her room is ready for her, so now all I can do is wait!
